Regarding the “approximate current retail price”

This price is used for comparison between our selling price and what the same or similar clock would cost you if you purchased it new elsewhere.  The approximate current retail prices we list for the various clocks below is determined in several ways. First of all, we have been involved with the repair and sale of grandfather clocks for over forty-five years. We have delivered and installed thousands of new clocks making us very intimately acquainted with current retail price trends.  Secondly, many clocks we sell are currently in production and the price can be looked up using the internet.  Other times we have the original receipt from when the clock was purchased.  With this information, we can take the cost of the clock at the time it was sold, enter it into an inflation calculator and determine what the price of the clock would be if sold today. In the last instance, using the web pages of large on-line clock retailers, we can find a clock of similar size, quality and function and determine what the clock we are selling would cost today if purchased new.

Concerning Descriptions and Conditions

At Master Clock Repair we value our reputation highly and make every effort to interact with our customers with integrity. We try very hard to describe our clocks as accurately as possible. However, it is very difficult to call out every nick and scratch that may be present. Antique clock cases, by definition, are almost never perfect. When we use the description “very good” regarding a clock case we do not mean that it is perfect. We would designate these as in “excellent” condition. The description, “very good” would mean that the clock presents itself very well when displayed on a wall or mantle with no glaringly obvious defects that would detract from its appearance when seen from a typical viewing distance of four or five feet.  If a clock is listed as being in “good condition” we will normally state where and what the major defects are in the description.  We will also often use a photo to show these defects.  Because we try to only sell clocks that we ourselves would be proud of, you will almost never see a clock listed as being in “poor” condition.
