Shipping Grandfather Clocks
Would You Like to Purchase a Grandfather clock From Us and have it Shipped to You?
Important Information
All of the clocks we sell are priced for local pick up. Although a clock can be shipped to you, there are several points that must be understood.
How to Ship - Grandfather clocks are large and heavy, making it practically impossible to ship them through traditional package shippers like UPS, USPS and FedEx etc. There are however companies that specialize in transporting large items like this long distances. Below are links to two different companies that offer this service. Think of these companies as the “eBay” of shipping services. When you request a quote, it will go out to hundreds of people nationwide who perform this service and are competing against others in the field for your business. different transporters will offer you a quote based on other items they may be transporting and where they may already be going. Those who are already heading your direction may offer a lower quote than someone who will be nowhere near where your clock needs to go. Click on these links to companies that offer large item transport: ”SHIPLY” or “USHIP”.
Arranging for Transport - This is the purchaser’s responsibility. you must initiate the receiving of the quote and pay the transporter directly.
Cost of Shipping - It can of course, be very expensive, depending on how far the clock must be transported. Based on the cost of shipping we have seen for clocks we have sold, unless you are incredibly close to our location, you are likely to spend $500 to $1000 to get a clock shipped several states away or to the other side of the country. Many of our customers simply rent a van, unless they have a vehicle of their own that the clock will fit in and make a mini vacation out of coming to pick it up. Surprisingly, our prices can be so good, that many people are willing to pay the shipping fees or make the trip themselves to obtain one of our clocks.
Preparation for Transport - We will pack the clock so that it will travel safely, and we will also instruct you on how to set it up. You could also hire a local clock shop to set it up for you if you wish. We do not crate the clock! It is up to the transporter to pad the clock down so it will not be damaged while in their care.
Warranty - Generally speaking, everything we sell is guaranteed. When a clock is purchased locally, we are here to back up the warranty with no cost to the purchaser. When a clock is transported out of state, even though we would still honor the warranty, all shipping costs, both directions, must be paid by the purchaser of the clock. Our profit margins are not large enough to cover the expense of transporting such a large item and being the small company that we are, we do not have a network of authorized service centers. The sad truth is, that for many people, it is simply cheaper to have a local clock shop perform the repair for them at their expense.
We realize that this information may very well discourage someone from buying a clock from us that needs to be shipped. We are not trying to be difficult, but if we lose money selling the clock due to transportation fees, there is no point in selling the clock at all.
