“We all have our time machines, don’t we. Those that take us back are memories…and those that carry us forward are dreams.”

Michael worked closely with a graphic designer to come up with interesting graphics to make his work van extraordinary. he began with the idea of “Clock Planets” since both planets and clock dials are round. At first this was limited to simply laying an image of a dial over top of a planet. But then, Michael began to ask, “what might the surface of a “clock planet” look like?” This led to the idea of an alien landscape filled with clock and time related images. See the image below to find clock planets, time flying, the “Key of Life”, a clock gear satellite, an hourglass and Noah’s Ark.

“We must not allow the clock and the calendar to blind us to the fact that each moment of life is a miracle and mystery.”

H.G. Wells Author, The Time machine 1895

The Main Image

This image appears on the rear door of the Time machine and features an eagle carrying a clock (Time Flying) modern and ancient forms of travel (riding on a camel’s back, a spaceship and a lunar rover), the ancient pyramids of Egypt and the modern pyramid of the Louvre!

Michael asked the artist to take the same dial used on the larger side image and bury it partially in the sand and make it look dirty. This clock dial is a photo Michael took of one of his own clocks. The swirling cloud with lightning evokes the “rip in the fabric of time” potentially caused by a time travel event.

Amazingly the artist was able to produce shadows in the sand for the various objects placed in the photo. He even allowed the landscape behind the hourglass to show through the glass.

The words “tempus Fugit” are Latin for Time Flies.

Michael felt like the van needed a name. Nothing made more sense than, “The Time Machine”. The images of space, comets and planets invoke the feeling of “Science Fiction” and the presence of lightning is the time travel theme present in all the graphics. We couldn’t help but pay homage to the book of the same name by H.G. Wells and include a stylized image of a Steam Punk inspired time machine.

The “Time Machine” Graphic

The image of the blue and orange lightning around an alien planet was the inspiration that set Michael on the path to develop the entire Time machine theme and graphic layout.  As previously mentioned, when Michael saw the round planet, he thought of a round clock dial.  a little work in photoshop allowed Michael to superimpose the clock dial image over the planet and then allow some of the planet to show through the dial.  This striking image appears on the hood of the van.
